Anna Shehan Voncannon King is a third generation potter, descended from a family which worked at the Blue Ridge Pottery in Erwin, Tennessee. Her father is Bobby Lee Voncannon, and her mother, Ella Shehan Voncannon, worked with the Cash family who owned that pottery. Her grandparents had operated the pottery.

Along with her husband Terry, She learned her craft while apprenticing and working under the very notable Dorothy and Walter Auman of the Seagrove Pottery. She had worked briefly for the Aumans when she was 12. She was also schooled by Charlie Owen of the Owen family of potters. Charlie was 85 when he taught Anna the shapes done by his father, as well as his brother, the late Joe Owen. It was by reopening Joe Owen's shop in 1987 that King's Pottery was born.

"Part of it is carrying on the tradition of growing up in Seagrove and seeing how much it means to people here. I think you must enjoy it, to do it very long, because you put a lot of hours in, and it's definitely hard work. I do this because it's something I want to do badly."
Pottery is all in the family with the Kings. Anna works alongside her husband, Terry, and daughter Crystal, in North Carolina's "Jugtown" of Seagrove.

The King's work is on display in many museums and galleries across he nation, including
